This finish is often used for windows, doors, trim, and ceilings, but can also be ideal walls in kids’ rooms, bathrooms, kitchens and other high-traffic areas because it is easier to clean than eggshell finish.

I want to create an amazing home office/guest room space that can feel truly like my office when I’m in it working from every day. While seamlessly transitioning to feel like an intentional and welcoming guest room when I have guests (few times a year). I am a Feeling person and I want this space to make me FEEL something
My decor style can be a bit all over the place depending on my mood. By I’d say I lean towards and modern transitional with eclectic flair. I don’t like plain transitional as it starts to feel boring and generic. But standard eclectic can get too busy and overstimulating.
As an office: I want the space to feel light. Not heavy. But I don’t want it to feel so neutral that it is generic. I want there to be layers and textures that create a sense of depth. I also want it to have unexpected elements. I’d like to see color within it, but not so much that it is overwhelming or overstimulating. And I DO NOT want to feel like my office is in a bedroom or have my zoom screen have a “bed” in the background. The desk that’s in the room I’d ideally like to reuse. But if you have a stellar idea that makes me willing to let it go that is fine.
As a guest room: I want my guests to feel comfortable. Feel like the room is theirs when they’re here. The bed solution needs to feel comfortable, not just “good enough,” as my mom is older and the current transforming daybed makes her achy and sits too low.
This shouldn’t feel generic. It shouldn’t feel like something I could have designed on my own where you slap some paint and a few photos and it is done. This needs to be more intentional.
COLORS: I like colors to feel warm not cool. I’m open to blues and grays but only if they have a warm undertone to them. But in general I like warm color tones. I do not want a yellow or pink room. Pretty much anything else is fair game.
Built ins and millwork are an option and I am willing to increase my budget for smart design. Need guidance on what is reasonable based on current wood prices. But I could go up to maybe $40kish for an AMAZING space that nails all my needs.
Since this is a joint office and guest room, I’ve looked a lot at Murphy beds. Typically I don’t like them because they look poorly designed in the room. Refer to the images of Murphy beds for the only room I’ve really seen that has stunning Murphy bed and cabinet design that I’ve loved.
My guest room inspired has been all over the place. This is one of my favorites. However with the paint and wood tones on walls light instead of dark. Or just the overall room feel is light (Photos Favorite inspo)
The images currently in the room are pics I took in a trip to Africa a few years ago. They are not a requirement to stay but if there’s a way to fit some of them into the design that’d be great. But not a requirement. And they can also be framed into way we want.
FYI. The ceilings are drywall over concrete and are nearly 11’ high.
Note that a full tall loft bed is likely not an option, as it will be hard for my mom to get up and down. But I AM open to some sort of loft option if it makes sense and works for my mom.
