For your main color, we chose to use white/off-white as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. White and off-white colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.
Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish

I am building a custom home in eastern Idaho where the view is wide open and the 4 peaks of the Grand Teton mountains can be seen.
The biggest challenge for the house is the 17 ft vaulted ceiling in the great room with a wall of windows straight ahead (facing east) as you enter the house and a floor to ceiling fireplace on the right. In addition, the great room has 2 queen beams running from the front to the back of the house with the possibility of another beam on each side where the ceiling meets the wall, so possibly 4 beams. The great room opens to the dining room and kitchen on the left. The goal is to let the view take center stage rather than the interior of the house.
I need help with a decorating plan for the great room/dining room including the design of the fireplace and what stone if any, as well as the color of the beams, the flooring, windows, baseboard trim (white or wood?) and walls. The windows will be the modern type window without extension jambs and the drywall is returned into the window frame. They fit tightly inside the window opening and have no trim around them. However, the builder told me that I could have some windows of the normal type with interior trim/moulding if I wanted. He just has to know. The color of the windows is to be determined, but I'm kind of thinking black ???

So to help you get a flavor for my style, some possible descriptions might be.... modern rustic contemporary/transitional, modern mountain, rustic elegance, upscale sophisticated modern rustic.....I want the space to feel inviting, comfortable, and restful but not boring , solid and grounded, sophisticated and not overly rustic, and the view should be the focus. I'm thinking along the lines of neutral colors, but no white furniture. I steer away heavily knotted wood, anything industrial, shabby or highly distressed. I do not foresee animal skins, antlers, etc in my decor.

I am buying all new furniture for this house. In shopping, I really like the Macy's Radley sectional that is in my materials section. https://www.macys.com/shop/product/radley-5-piece-fabric-chaise-sectional-sofa-created-for-macys?ID=1101386&CategoryID=35419&swatchColor=Heavenly%20Chrome%20Beige I haven't bought it yet, but I'd like to try use it in a configuration that you think is best. It comes in many configurations and colors and in the materials sections, the multi-color swatches are fabric sample combinations that I like possibly for pillows. I would also be happy with the white round sectional shown in my inspiration pics (but not in a white color).
I'm including 2 paintings that I do already have. It's not mandatory to use them, but if we can use 1 or both, that's great. They will probably need to be used frameless or be reframed as I'm not sure that the frames they are in will work.

For the DR table, if the top is wood, I do not want it to have a brushed wire finish. I prefer a table that is solid with more of a polished, smooth finish.
I envision the flooring to be engineered wood. I don't want something so dark that you see cracker crumbs on it. I'd like something on the light to medium side, but not with a lot of color variation
Wherever wood is used, I don't want it to be highly knotty, like knotty alder is. In the section for wall colors, I gave you some ideas, but don't feel restricted to just those. There are a lot more neutral colors than what is listed. In general, I like blue/grey/green/beige color combinations. I just don't want the room to feel cold or stark.
The DR windows on the left side of the room are Sierra Pacific Aspen casement windows with aluminum clad wood on the outside. The others on the east are stationary. If you choose the more traditional type of windows, they will have wood inside that can be stained or painted any color. In either case, the windows will not have light dividers in them. They will just be plain glass.
The kitchen design is not in scope, but since it is visible from the DR and the Great room and since we want a rather consistent flow, I have included a sketch of the cabinet arrangement and pics of the appliances I have chosen. The colors for the kitchen are still to be determined as is the style of cabinetry which will be custom. These are in the "Other Rooms in the house" section.

For your main color, we chose to use white/off-white as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space. White and off-white colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious.
Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
