Read on as we reveal the tasteful transformation of this tranquil grey bedroom.
The Challenge of a Grey Bedroom
When it comes to relaxing bedroom design, there are few colors more tranquil and calming than grey, and this transformation proves that point perfectly. The client was looking for an elegant yet low-key design solution for her second bedroom. Her idea was to incorporate this small space into the rest of the apartment design in order to achieve a cohesive look throughout. The challenges for the designer included:
- Create an online bedroom design that matched the value of the building
- Incorporate some existing furniture pieces in the light grey bedroom
- Give the space a classy, sexy, upscale appeal
- Make the most of the small floor plan

Grey Bedroom Ideas & Inspiration
To help give the designers a sense of her preferences, the client provided a series of inspiration images she found appealing. From those images it was apparent she disliked bold colors, but had a strong affection for neutral palettes. Her style, at the same time, leaned toward classy contemporary. In addition, the spaces she was drawn to weren’t overdone, rather they elicited a curated feel with thought out furniture and decor selections.
Cozy Grey Bedroom Moodboard
With the clients inspiration and design brief in hand, two designers offered the client their unique concepts for the bedroom, displayed as mood boards. Both proposals were in line with the required style, mixing timeless, sophisticated, elegant pieces with some modern, natural flair. However, the client favored Amber K’s solution that utilized master bedroom design to give the space its own luxurious feel. It represented a calm yet welcoming, light grey bedroom that was warmed and softened with the help of rich textures.
Following the client’s desire for grey bedroom walls, Amber decided to choose a wall covering with a subtle pattern. The rest of the design flowed cohesively with the wallpaper, balancing neutral colors as well as a variety of textures. Overall, Amber’s concept kept with the clients wish for a classy contemporary space. However, she also brought in a few glam accents for added luxury.
Tranquil Grey Bedroom Design Results
As mentioned, the room’s wallpapered accent wall brought a sophisticated statement to the room. Its stria texture with a metallic finish also provided the first layer of texture. To balance out the wall, Amber’s grey bed ideas included a streamlined headboard, an elegant white duvet cover and two standard pillow shams layered in front of a soft flax linen euro pillows. A chunky knit throw blanket and oversized accent pillow complete the perfectly layered bedding.
Contemporary shagreen nightstands anchored the bed, providing a perfect base for accentuating intense symmetry. Their raffia covering and pewter metal trim added even more texture, deepening the overall flair. Above the nightstands, Amber placed two sleek pendant lights and large black infinity framed mirrors that help make the small room feel larger than it is. For a slight touch of art, two gallery photo frames in a grayed wood finish were added. And finally a sputnik chandelier denoted the center of the room without overpowering it.
The existing console coordinated well with the new space. However the look was completed by two ottoman stools with acrylic legs, that tucked nicely under the console. That way, the need for a full-size chair in a small room was eliminated without compromising on functional comfort. The remaining corner space welcomed a faux olive tree for extra character and vibrancy. In the end, the room was given black and white finishing touches such as books, vases, a marble knot, and polished wood displays to bring the look together.
Small Bedroom Before Online Interior Design
The original bedroom did not lack style, but it felt unfinished. Some reasons were in the absence of a rug and draperies. The client avoided those in fear that they would make the modest room dimensions appear even smaller. The designer’s choices contradicted that, adding fullness and extra levels of soft texture against hard surfaces to update the room’s style.
