Design Inspiration: Black and White Living Rooms
When taking a closer look at the client’s inspirational images, the team found a few things in common. Apart from the shared color scheme, each room featured clean-lined furniture, which presented a crisp, graceful feeling.
The black and white living room décor also added visual interest and depth through subtle textural and pattern differences. As a result, clever design and layout tricks made even the largest, most formal rooms seem somehow tucked in and cozy.
Initial Concepts: Finding the Right Designer

Results Revealed: Black and White Living Room Design
During the process, Wanda tweaked the design slightly and offered alternatives to suit the client’s particular needs. The newly designed living room was finally materialized in a symphony of whites, off-whites, charcoals, and grays. Even better, its cool white walls went beautifully with the rich, dark wooden floors.
Adding visual interest to the smooth, white walls, is the herringbone-style, wood veneer wallpaper by the fireplace. Since it extends up to the ceiling, it further elongates the walls, making the room seem even grander.
Enhancing Comfort and Livability
The open-plan black and white living room and dining room feature various organic accents. These include wooden pieces, such as the coffee and dining tables, and indoor plants. These natural elements play an important role in overall ambiance, adding texture as well as color to warm up the scheme and avoid the risk of it feeling too sterile.
The plants, for example, stand out notably among the monochrome, while the wood underscores the relaxing aspect. Organic accents also bring balance to the upscale interior, adding comfort and serenity to the ambiance.

Where the living room features hardwood, the dining space has tiles – albeit in a complementary tone. The wall color is the same in both spaces. It acts as a unifying element, along with similar artwork, furniture, and décor style.
The space gets ample natural light, while a contemporary ceiling light adds artificial brightness. Like the living area armchairs, two alternatives existed for the round dining table and chairs. Up first was a dark wooden table and textured charcoal chairs option. The second featured a white, marble-topped table with black leather chairs.
