1. Were you always interested in design?
Yes, my mother says that I started designing straight out of the womb! Before I was 2, I was running around arranging and styling my house and everyone else’s, ensuring everything matched.
2. How would you define your design style?
I would say that I am a modernist that likes to mix styles with a carefully considered balance. Modern | Eclectic | Mid Century | French Noveau | Beach Chic | Fresh | Clean | Artful | It is always evolving and I intend on continuing to do so.
3. Who or what influences your work?
Travel + different culturally experience influence my work… I adore experiencing different hotel environments and getting entangled in the local cultural lifestyle. Music also inspires me, I have a new playlist that I create for each project that evokes the mood of the design I am working towards.
4. What’s a must-have item you make sure your interior designs include?
Unique lighting + art, it is like the jewelry of interior design.
5. What is a recent design trend that you’re loving at the moment?
Modern Spanish tropical colour blocking + mixing.
6. If you had to pick a favorite room in your home, which would it be and why?
The outdoor pool area! I appreciate it for work + play. I turn up the music and look to the mountains and sunshine for new inspiration.
7. What is your favorite design magazine or blog and why?
Wallpaper + Design Milk! They feature cutting edge lifestyle design inspiration. I always see something I have not seen before. Great eye candy.
8. What is the best thing about being an interior designer?
Being an interior designer is like having a blank 3D art canvas. You can shape the look, feel and a mood of an entire environment to make it cohesive.
9. What was your first big project and what was your favorite part?
It was designing the interiors + visual styling for the infamous fashion brand Esprit de Corp store . It was a gigantic 25,000 square foot space, architecturally designed with pre-cast concrete walls, polished concrete floors and 2 story high ceilings. An absolute modern dream space. My favourite part was working with the legendary Memphis furniture design group, developing some wonderfully colourful and interesting bespoke furnishings + objects throughout the store. I gained so much insight into furniture design and extraordinary ways to utilize colours!
10. How do you manage challenges that come up during a design project?
There are many caveats to interior design as you are working with different light + dimensions + proportions and someone’s personal space. I like to look at design as problem solving… I always arm my self with multiple options in preparation for challenges that may evolve. I enjoy a good challenge!
11. Why do you like online interior design?
I love the capability of working with clients and personalities all over the country/globe, the outreach is endless. It truly allows you to extend your design sensibility to many different climates and cultures. I travel a lot and it is really lovely to be able to work from wherever you are.
