THE CHALLENGE: CONTEMPORARY HOME DESIGN
For a recent client, solidifying and carrying out the vision for an artful contemporary home design required some professional assistance. An online interior designer not only helped the clients integrate beloved pieces from their former home but, also offered a cohesive design plan for the entire home.
Starting with a collection of fabulous inspiration images coupled with a handful of existing pieces, the clients pointed to a contemporary style with an eclectic flair. This, along with a number of preferences, shaped the design direction of the home. In addition, some needs that the designer needed to give focus to included:
- Create a modern look that aligns with the architecture of the new home; for example a patterned fireplace and open plan
- Emulate Tulum inspired design into their living room: jungle and bohemian
- Make sure the living room sofa is super comfy and leather to accommodate their dogs
- Find a contemporary large dining room that seats 8-10 people for entertaining
- Incorporate as much of their existing art pieces as possible in the new design
THE INSPIRATION: NEW HOME INTERIOR DESIGN IDEAS
Color is not something that the clients were shying away from. The goal for their new home interior design was to weave in bold colors and patterns with metallic accents to create a contemporary and artistic space. Covering ideas for several rooms, the inspiration images became a roadmap for the designer. Ultimately guiding her to pull in essential elements and present a design story that flowed from one space to the next.
THE CONTEMPORARY HOME DESIGN: LIVING ROOM/DINING ROOM RESULT
Because of the spacious open floor plan, one of the objectives of this new home interior design was to ensure that the spaces connected effortlessly. After getting feedback from the client on her initial proposal Decorilla designer, Jessica S., expertly made modifications. In the end, she delivered a polished contemporary space.
What once was a large, empty area that felt a bit overwhelming to design, transformed into extremely attractive rooms that met the needs of the client. The living room makes the floor to ceiling fireplace the focal point with inspiring pieces all around. A velvet sofa, sculptural chandelier, and marble side table bring in a multitude of textures and finishes that add an air of sophistication and class. The striped accent chair and pop of kelly green in the side chairs offer a whimsical spirit to the design as well. In addition, the clients’ gold rhino head makes for the perfect eye-catcher. While other art pieces bring the color scheme and style together.
Jessica’s initial concept for the dining room started with a more subtle look that shifted into more grabbing pieces. Velvet chairs and a multicolored snakeskin patterned rug aren’t the only wow factors here. The clients’ existing three-panel bamboo wall art sure makes a statement. The piece brings in an organic element to the modern space while also reflecting the green hues of the living room chairs.

THE MODERN HOME: BEDROOM RESULT
The contemporary style desired by the clients moves into the bedroom with clean lines, minimal accents, and a moody color palette. Masculine inspired textures like the leather daybed and brown oak and burnished brass dressers mingle with softer feminine accents like the blush side chair and the speckled cowhide rug. Shine comes through via the gold-based table lamps and tiered chandelier. Possibly the most alluring aspect of this bedroom interior design is the black wooden dowel wallpaper that serves as a sexy accent wall. As a result, the pieces create an intimate and comfortable space.
THE NEW HOME DESIGN: ENTERTAINING ROOM RESULT
Although the entertaining room takes a slight departure from bright colors and bold patterns, it maintains its modern essence with sleek lines and abstract designs. Wall art and throw pillows give the otherwise bohemian room a touch of contemporary with geometric shapes and lines. This room was specifically intended to take on the mood of tropical Tulum where neutral tones and boho chic decor accents are the trademark style. The natural look of the room is greatly attributed to the wooden panel ceiling which offers warmth and coziness. Additionally, large plants and hanging planters add to the botanical energy requested which lends to a relaxing atmosphere for the clients and their guests.
THE CONTEMPORARY HOME: SMALL HOME OFFICE RESULT
Above all, the home office is a sweet mixture of many elements of the home design coming together in an eclectic way. The focal point is certainly the floral wallpaper (a 2020 design trend fave). Since it’s adhesive, making the commitment to it was a piece of cake. The colors are a fun jumping-off point for the rest of the room’s color palette. Which includes a blush armchair in the corner and a green office chair behind the desk. The other pieces are in shades of white that lighten up the room. And then there are the flashy pieces that offer an element of glamour. The desk and etagere bookcases bring in contemporary elements while the chandelier and mirror tie in the gold accents found throughout. Even the ivory cowhide has metallic flecks that add to the sparkle experience.
