Susan creates unique and welcoming spaces that complement and narrate her clients’ lifestyles and personalities. From where do you draw most of your inspiration?
I draw most of my inspiration from travel, books and art. Exploring different cultures and environments not only inspires me, but is also a terrific learning experience. I make a habit of visiting museums, design fairs and art galleries wherever I happen to be, and I enjoy keeping abreast of new trends in the world of design. It's exciting to see what other designers and craftspeople around the globe are creating. Incorporating new ideas and products into my projects is always rewarding and fun.
We know you love designing, but what about it do you love most?
I love meeting a prospective client, discovering who they are and how I can help them accomplish their design goals. I enjoy every step in the design process from the selection of a color palette to drafting furniture plans. Sharing ideas and becoming excited at finding the perfect coffee table, fabric or innovative solution to a storage issue never fails to make my day. Transforming a space so that it is not only functional, but also beautiful and comfortable is an undertaking I truly value and enjoy.
Describe your go-to style:
I have personal style preferences, however, I don't have a go-to style when it comes to my work. Rather, I love the challenge of using my design expertise to enhance the design aesthetic of my clients. I am genuinely excited by every new project that comes my way no matter how big or small. Working directly with each client and tailoring the project to their tastes, budget and needs ensures that the space is unique to them. If a client lacks direction, I provide the guidance and support necessary to achieve their desired goals.
